**************************************************************************************************************
I read running blogs of some speedier-than-I people. Whenever I see a run with a 7 (or more) miles in under an hour I am impressed.
Do you ever have those numbers that stick with you? Last year it was "If I could just run a 5k in under 26 minutes". And "if I could just run any distance over 6 miles without collapsing."
Well, as I have been rehabbing from this calf injury, I have been running a lot fewer miles. I have been doing a longer run (around 6 miles) on the weekend, and then short treadmill runs during the week, with a 3.5 ish mile slow run with my 7 yr old once a week. Also throw in some random miles with the track team.
BTW, my calf is feeling much better! It occurred to me the other day "this hasn't hurt in a while". It probably hasn't been pain for about a week now. Earlier in the week it was noticeable tighter than the good leg, and more sore after workouts, but even that seems to have subsided. Yay!!
Come back and remind me about ramping up my mileage slowly, m'k?
This week my mileage goal is 22 miles. With Monday as an extra rest day (not intentionally, but just didn't fit a workout in), and Saturday being a rest day (again, too busy with soccer and track meet), and only 9 miles under my belt for the week - I basically need to do a full hour run today and Sunday. I am not ready to stretch my long run out too long yet.
My ladder workout the other day felt pretty darn good. If I repeated that twice I would do 7.42 in 60 minutes - but while I felt strong at the end of that workout, I'm afraid I wouldn't make it through twice. I also don't know how I'd feel about slowing back down to the beginning if I just repeat it.
After much debate, I think what I will do today is the ladder workout, but in two minute intervals, instead of one. I am also going to push back the starting pace to 6.8 mph, so my overall pace will be slower.
What are your fitness goals? Any "if I could only...." ideals that would make you feel like you're really a runner/athlete, etc if you accomplished them?
7 miles in 60 minutes, and a 5k under 25 minutes are my immediate goals. The 5k under 25 min should be a no-brainer if I can do 7 miles in 60 minutes, but keep in mind many of my faster paces are on the treadmill (and no, I don't run on any sort of incline), so the resistance and heat of running outdoors slows me down vs the treadmill pace.
Working my long run back up to 13 - 15 miles, and getting my weekly mileage base up to 35 miles/week are goals by the end of summer.
